If you’re visiting Gravenhurst or surrounding areas, and looking for a place to Mountain Bike – YOU MUST GO TO BUCKWALLOW aka BUCK!
Buckwallow has about 15 km’s of single track from beginner to most gnarly of 6 hoofs. What is 6 hoofs you ask? Instead of rating trails the usual way of others as green, blue, diamond, etc., Buckwallow rates them in hoofs. One hoof being the easiest to 6 hoofs being the most difficult.
The one hoof trails are winding fun and flowy with little rock, but when you get into the 3 hoofs and up, your riding on granite rock.
Buckwallow trails are great for all levels of riders and for the whole family. They have washrooms, change station and bike shop / store on site.
At first I was nervous about riding on rock, but couldn’t believe how much traction my tires had.
I am an intermediate rider, and my favorite trails were Missing Link, Frankly My Deer and the newest one #22 – White Tail Fawn. We were so giddy finishing this trail, we had to do a repeat. Noted from my experienced entourage – West D’Nile is their favorite.
Mike McLaughlin and his family are always ready to greet you when you drive in. There’s ample of free parking and the entrance fee is only $12. Pretty great deal if you see how much goes in to maintaining these trails. Even in the fall, the trails are all clear of fallen leaves.
Buck doesn’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook Page –
