Kayak or Canoe then Hike Island Lake Conservation Area

Island Lake Conservation Area located in Orangeville, Ontario, is where we kayaked for almost 3 hours and explored almost 7 km of water, marsh and channels.

We don’t own a kayak (yet), as we are unsure if we want a single or a tandem kayak.  The benefits of a tandem is you only require 1 roof rack, it takes up half the room in your garage and is smaller and lighter than a canoe.  The major benefit – if one of you gets tired, the other can take over.

Island Lake Kayaks

Island Lake Conservation rents kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes and fishing boats with all the necessary safety gear.  There are clean washrooms on site, lots of parking and snacks to purchase.  You can also plug in your Green Car.

Island Lake opens at 6 am on the weekends, which is fantastic to get out and finish before the rush and heat.  They do take reservations, which are recommended.

Island Lake is very clean – deep in some parts but shallow in others to easily maneuver without issue. We paddled some marsh areas and channels which were very fun to explore.

Bring your hiking shoes – there is a trail that goes around and above the lake that’s about 10 km’s long.  We didn’t do this as we visited during the heat wave and had to grab some shade and rest.

This is a must to explore if you haven’t already!  They also rent fat bikes, SUP’s, winter gear for ice fishing and snowshoeing….and much more.

Happy adventuring! #getoutside #getoutdoors
