Hike – Great Falls

Great Falls is just one of the many waterfalls located in Waterdown, Ontario (Hamilton area) which is over 32′ high and 16′ wide.

The trail entering the falls is very rocky, lots of roots but wide and well maintained.  The is not a beginner hike as noted on their website.  I would recommend sturdy hiking boots and poles.

We hiked about 2.5 km’s in and returned for almost a total of 5 km’s.

There is a path to reach the bottom of the falls, but be careful as this is not maintained and can be very dangerous and slippery with all the rocks and trees.

Grindstone Creek

We hiked along Grindstone Creek which is part of the Bruce Trail.  For those who don’t know about the Bruce Trail – it’s hiking trail that is 885 km’s long from Queenston, Ontario to Tobermory, Ontario.

Bring a picnic, sit on a rock and enjoy the view!

Trail along side Grindstone Creek

We hiked up and down several stairs like this one.  This is the reason I recommend poles and hiking boots or shoes.

Grindstone Creek trail is not noted on this map below.  But the McNally Side Trail is well marked and can follow it up to Kerncliff Park.
