If you’re visiting Gravenhurst, Muskoka or surrounding areas in Ontario, and looking for a place to Mountain Bike – YOU MUST GO TO BUCKWALLOW aka BUCK!
Buckwallow has almost 20km’s of single track from beginner to most gnarly of 6 hoofs. What is 6 hoofs you ask? It’s Buckwallow’s trail rating system. One hoof being the easiest to 6 hoofs being the most difficult….or “Duh” as per Buckwallow would say…
The one hoof trails are windy, fun and flowy with little rock and great for beginners and children. But when you get into the 3 hoofs and up, you will be riding on granite rock and lots of obstacles.
Here’s a video of Buckwallow’s newest 3 hoof trail – WHITE TAIL FAWN. As I’ve only had the courage to ride up to 4 hoofs, I must say – this is the most scenic and beautiful trail.
I am an intermediate rider with little experience riding on rock, but I couldn’t believe how much traction my tires had. My favorite trails are Missing Link, Frankly My Deer and of course White Tail Fawn. Noted from my experienced entourage – West D’Nile is their favorite. There is lots of signage throughout the complete trail system including signs at each trail head noting the name, description and number of hoofs. There are also signs to guide you back quickly to the main gatehouse.
Buckwallow trails are great for all levels of riders and for the whole family. They have washrooms, change station, bike shop, store on site and bike rentals.
Mike McLaughlin and his friendly family are always ready to greet you when you drive in. There’s ample of free parking and the entrance fee is only $12. Pretty great deal if you see how much goes in to maintaining these trails. Even in the fall, the trails are all clear of fallen leaves.
Buck doesn’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook Page –
